WHAT IT’S LIKE GROWING UP IN A DIGITAL WORLD
What is living surrounded by technologies like? That is a question that almost every single one of us teenagers has asked before. I always answer saying: you get used to it. After all, technologies have been around since we were born. But what is it really like?
For starters, every generation becomes more and more dependent on technologies, mostly because of the technological advances and updates. When I was younger, I wouldn’t really pay that much attention to the digital world apart from TV. But once I got older, I was more appealed by the idea of having my own devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops. But this generation’s kids are taking too much interest in this. For instance, some babies can’t fall asleep unless they’re watching a video, or children are bored and only want their devices, but if it continues this way it will get worse and become an addiction.
Along with this, teenagers are also more reliable on technology in general, since it can be used for many aspects. To give some examples, it is easier to communicate with our family and friends, it is a fun way to spend your time without getting bored and the most important or common one would be, for popularity. Social media is what is most appealing to teenagers nowadays, especially because almost everyone has it so their reach is endless. Social media apps such as, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube are popular for the simple fact of having them. On these apps you can also control and see everything that everyone is doing and makes you feel more included.
To sum up, like I mentioned before, each generation has a different relationship with the digital world, but not everything is bad. Technology has made our lives easier in more ways that we could ever think of, but we need to be conscious of the use that we put them to. Being on these devices all the time can isolate you from your loved ones, and like I said, can cause an addiction. So be careful how you use them.
